Fun Franklin Fact

Brick Schoolhouse Fire

January 28, 1922
4 o'clock in the morning

The brick schoolhouse that was built in 1869 was on fire and could not be saved!  Countless records of students and teachers were lost.

There were some pupils who were not unhappy to see the school burn.  It meant that Arnold Bingham and his friends would not have to catch skunks and bathe themselves in the terrible odor so the teacher would send them home.

Arnold was the son of George Bingham who built the Brick Store.  His dad arranged for students to hold classes upstairs in the store.
