Doctor

Doctors made house calls. They traveled on foot, horseback or horse-drawn carriages with a saddlebag filled with medical supplies.

They delivered babies, treated accident mishaps like being kicked by a horse, falling off of a wagon or injured by farm machinery.

Many times, they were paid in eggs, produce or firewood.
